Do you know about the Challenger Division of Little League? It is a separate, adaptive division that gives boys and girls with physical and developmental challenges, ages 4-18+ a chance to enjoy the game of baseball.
GVLL and DLL partner to run a Challenger Division in NYC -- over 50 kids and teens play in this division each season!
And for every player, we need a peer buddy volunteer.
Buddies are volunteers—boys and girls who are enthusiastic, kind and patient who can assist Challengers players with batting, fielding and running the bases where necessary and encourage the players to bat and make plays themselves. The buddy is always nearby to help on an individual basis when needed.
Our oldest players have dates scheduled when their team volunteers with Challenger, but more buddies are welcome and needed.
Buddies should be older/mature players (10+ is a good rule of thumb). Older siblings, friends, and past players are encouraged to volunteer as well.
We play at the Battery Park City Ball field starting at 10am (arrive at 9:45am).
